If you are thinking of buying, building, expanding or renovating your home, consider a mortgage loan. We can grant you a mortgage repayable in up to 30 years as well as provide assistance by recommending an appraiser, arranging insurance, and providing technical advice. If you are planning on investing in a piece of land, we can lend up to 70% of the foreclosure value of the property.

Here are a few important points to consider when applying for a mortgage:

• Monthly payments may not exceed 1/3 of your net (after tax) salary
• We ask that the property be appraised by an independent appraiser
• The property should be insured against fire to protect you and us
• You should have life insurance to protect your family
• The land can either be your own or long-lease ('erfpacht')
• We will ask you to contribute to your home from your own sources (normally 30%)
• Notary costs
